Hero Manufacturing Machine - Intermission - Subjugation of Orcs - Chapter 22

Having fulfilled my promise with the magic swordsmen, I once again had an audience with the King of Sorceras and then set off on my journey home. There were a few battles with monsters, but they were only minor skirmishes. We weren't attacked by any particular hordes, so I only had to step out briefly.

By the end of this journey, I had finished making children with all the women who accompanied me, as planned. It was the first time I'd set foot on my hometown in several days. The mild climate of Braidea felt good on my cheeks. I felt like I was finally back home, free from the scorching heat. I headed straight for the castle and reported my results to the king.

"You've worked hard. Let's ensure those who accompanied you receive their rewards as well."

As expected, the king responds with a face that shows no signs of worry.

"We graciously accept."

I receive the reward on behalf of the group.

Since it's coming from the king, I'm sure he'll distribute it equally.

I know there are vassals who don’t think well of my existence, but this time there was no particular backlash.

It seems there are no particular objections to maintaining good relations with other countries.

The audience went smoothly and the meeting was dismissed. Except for me. "You stay behind, Eucharlouch. There's a bit more to discuss." With the king's words, I'm the only one who stayed behind, and after making sure everyone else had been cleared away, the king spoke. "You probably don't know the contents of this letter." Saying that, the king continues. "It seems he's quite fond of you." "What do you mean?"

"It says that he wants you as a son-in-law once you're finished with your current work." "Are you serious?"

The king laughed off my question.

"It's only a matter of saying it. I don't think they really think they can take the hero as a son-in-law." "If we're only thinking about the national interest, I don't think it's such a bad deal." I ignore my own feelings and say.

"If we're only thinking about profit and loss." The king showed a rare bitter expression. Furthermore. "Is it a political marriage? I don't like it." The king spat out those words.

It's not like there wasn't a history of political marriages in the hero's bloodline. The king himself, who said this, had far from romantic marriages. The only person he had a purely romantic relationship with was my mother.

Perhaps because he was like that, he respects the person's wishes above all else when it comes to marriage. The fact that I'm still single at this age is proof enough of that. "I'm getting emotional, which is uncharacteristic of me." The king said with a sigh.

"You can marry the person you want to spend the rest of your life with when you want to. Well, since I've given you your role, I'll be tying you down for a while."

As a parent, not as a king, he seems to feel sorry for delaying my marriage. "Anyway, it's been hard work. Take your time to recover from the fatigue of your journey." I left after receiving words of appreciation from the king. And so, I completed my mission of defeating the orcs in another country.
